In celebration of World Princess Week 2024, happening August 25-31, Disney Parks around the world are offering new treats and beverages inspired by Disney Princesses. One of those is the Guardian of the Dragon Gem, a mousse inspired by “Raya and the Last Dragon.”
This treat is currently available at Creature Comforts in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Guardian of the Dragon Gem – $6.29
Mango mousse, lychee-dragon fruit gelee, coconut cake, dragon tail cream, and white chocolate decor
The mango mousse here is light and airy, yet still packed with flavor, and serves as a fantastic complement to the coconut cake. The dragon tail cream is sweet and very much like your typical frosting found on treats like this. Our chocolate accent pieces were very sweet but melted quickly in the summer heat.
The lychee-dragon fruit gelee was an interesting experience. The texture is quite different from what you’d expect for a mousse cake, and it sits on top of the mango mousse. That being said, there wasn’t too much gelee in our serving so it didn’t overpower the dessert; rather, it was a unique opportunity to try something new.
We were genuinely impressed with how well every aspect of the dessert stayed in place amid the heat and moving through the park. The gelee texture could deter some, but you can easily scrape it off the top and still enjoy the rest of the dessert.
We think the Guardian of the Dragon Gem is a great choice for World Princess Week if you’re after a refreshing and sweet treat. It might be too high-brow for kids, as the coconut, mango, and lychee-dragon fruit are all very forward flavors.
