Liberty Square Riverboat will be closed from August 20-22 at Magic Kingdom. This closure was not previously announced, and a reason for the attraction’s closure has not been given by Disney. At the moment, the attraction is not listed as “closed for refurbishment” from August 20-22 on the Disney World website.

Liberty Square Riverboat is unlikely to be at Magic Kingdom much longer, due to the announcement of the new “Cars” themed land coming to Frontierland. Therefore, it’s likely that this closure is strictly for general maintenance and no major changes are coming, as the boat remains operational before its expected closure at some point in early 2025.

Permits for the new “Cars” land were filed in mid-August, shortly after the announcement at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. While we don’t know the exact closing date of Tom Sawyer Island, Rivers of America, and Liberty Square Riverboat, we do know that construction on the “Cars” land is set to begin in 2025.
