Disney’s newest act features Hindustani Raga music in “Beats and Strings” in the Asia area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
“Beats and Strings”
The sounds of a live sitar can again be heard in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. “Beats and Strings,” performs around every 20 minutes, weather permitting. It is a two-man band. One plays the tabla, the other performer plays the sitar to a backing track they have created. Both performers have culturally appropriate clothes for their performance.
“Beats and Strings” can be found in Disney’s Animal Kingdom in the Asia area near Feathered Friends in Flight! and before Yak & Yeti Restaurant.
Previously this stage was home to the well-known Chakranadi act. Stephan Mikes was a fan-favorite sitar performer in Disney’s Animal Kingdom until his unfortunate passing in 2023. Here is a clip of Chakranadi performing “Leap Frog” from 2021.
Six shows are scheduled for today. The specific showtimes can be found on the My Disney Experience App. You can easily find these showtimes by searching the band’s name, “Beats and Strings.”
During “Beats and Strings,” the two performers showcase the iconic melodic improvisation “raga” music is known for. Here you can see the tabla player keeping beat against the mixed beats and sitar.
Between songs, the sitar player gives small history lessons about the music they’re performing.
Check out their performance from this morning below. ‘Morning Mumbai’ even features the hustle and bustling sounds of Mumbai.
In addition to the new performers, Burudika returned to the Africa area of the park on September 29.
