A 45-year-old woman has been arrested for deceiving a young woman out of thousands of dollars in cash while pretending to be an employee of the Oriental Land Company promising the young woman an employee discount.
Woman Scams for Thousands
Nippon Television Network reported about the arrest in Japan. According to their report, the 45-year-old woman was arrested for pretending to be an employee of Oriental Land Company and deceiving a woman in her twenties into giving her thousands in cash by lying about getting employee discounts.
Police stated that Aiko Nakamura is a resident of Ota City in Gunma Prefecture, and is accused of impersonating an Oriental Land Company employee, which operates in Tokyo Disneyland. Between 2022 and 2023 Nakamura then is suspected to have convinced a 21-year-old woman that she could buy souvenirs with an employee discount. The young woman transferred approximately 560,000 yen to Nakamura. That is $3,950.06 in USD.
Nakamura is also suspected of scamming through LINE, a messenger mobile application. According to reports Nakamura used LINE to arrange discounted accommodation packages with tickets, leading to multiple cash transfers to her personal account.
At this time Nakamura does partially deny these allegations. The police continue to investigate related cases of similar fraud.
This is not the first time we have seen bad behavior from Disney fans, but it is rare to see it from overseas.
