A new Pepita puppet has been added to the updated Plaza de la Familia “Coco” show at Disney California Adventure, titled “The Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia Celebrate the Musical World of Coco.”
Pepita Puppet Added to ‘Musical World of Coco’ Show
The Pepita puppet arrives to join the party as the group of storytellers sings “Un Poco Loco” from the Pixar animated film. In “Coco,” Pepita is an alebrije who serves as the spiritual guide for Mama Imelda.
She is a cross between a jaguar or a cougar, an eagle, a ram, and an iguana. The puppet is positioned on a long pole held by a performer. Pepita’s wing “flap” as the puppet is lifted up and down.
The performer for Pepita wears a mask inspired by Mama Imelda’s alebrije, with a white collared shirt featuring colorful floral embroidery.

The “Musical World of Coco” show also features a similar style of puppet for Dante’s alebrije form.
The revamped show made its debut in August 2024, and features songs form the Academy Award-winning animated film, including “The World Es Mi Familia,” “Remember Me,” and “La Llorona.” Guests can sing and clap along to the storytellers’ performance, as well as take part in a new audience participation section.
