Walt Disney World Extends Changes and Cancellation Hurricane Policy Due to Milton

Walt Disney World Resort has announced an update for its reservation changes and cancellation policy ahead of Hurricane Milton making landfall in Florida this week.

Walt Disney World Extends Hurricane Policy

Walt Disney World waived the cancellation and change fees for guests with hotel reservations yesterday, October 6. Now, that time period of the waiver has been extended.

Now, the policy is as follows:

Due to potential weather impacts to guest travel plans, change and cancellation fees imposed by Disney will be waived for check-in dates of Sunday, 10/6 – Sunday, 10/13.

Most room-only and vacation packages can be modified, or canceled online, including changes to travel dates, without fees. Packages including air transportation or other services provided by third parties, or those with travel protection, cannot be modified or canceled online. For Guests with these reservations please call for assistance.

At this time, Walt Disney World is operating under normal conditions and has not announce any closures related to Hurricane Milton. At the time of publishing, Hurricane Milton is classified as a Category 5 storm. The latest cone from the National Hurricane Center is above.

This waiver is in addition to the standard hurricane policy for Walt Disney World, which gives guests the ability to cancel or change their reservations if a hurricane warning is issued for Orlando within seven days of a guest’s check-in date. While a Hurricane Warning has not been issued for Walt Disney World, Orange County, where Walt Disney World is located, is currently under a Hurricane Watch.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued a State of Emergency for Walt Disney World on October 5, when Milton was still a tropical storm. It strengthened into hurricane status on October 6.

Guests are unable to book new hotel reservations for October 9-10, and cannot make park reservations for October 9.
