Walt Disney World Resort has announced an update for its reservation changes and cancellation policy ahead of Hurricane Milton making landfall in Florida this week.
Walt Disney World Extends Hurricane Policy
Walt Disney World waived the cancellation and change fees for guests with hotel reservations yesterday, October 6. Now, that time period of the waiver has been extended.
Now, the policy is as follows:
Due to potential weather impacts to guest travel plans, change and cancellation fees imposed by Disney will be waived for check-in dates of Sunday, 10/6 – Sunday, 10/13.
Most room-only and vacation packages can be modified, or canceled online, including changes to travel dates, without fees. Packages including air transportation or other services provided by third parties, or those with travel protection, cannot be modified or canceled online. For Guests with these reservations please call for assistance.
At this time, Walt Disney World is operating under normal conditions and has not announce any closures related to Hurricane Milton. At the time of publishing, Hurricane Milton is classified as a Category 5 storm. The latest cone from the National Hurricane Center is above.
This waiver is in addition to the standard hurricane policy for Walt Disney World, which gives guests the ability to cancel or change their reservations if a hurricane warning is issued for Orlando within seven days of a guest’s check-in date. While a Hurricane Warning has not been issued for Walt Disney World, Orange County, where Walt Disney World is located, is currently under a Hurricane Watch.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued a State of Emergency for Walt Disney World on October 5, when Milton was still a tropical storm. It strengthened into hurricane status on October 6.
Guests are unable to book new hotel reservations for October 9-10, and cannot make park reservations for October 9.

I tried to get a refund on my Epcot tix for tomorrow (10/08) but despite the area being under a Hurricane Warning and evacuations underway, I was told I had to reschedule my travel before tomorrow to avoid losing my tickets. Needless to say, I’m done with Disney.
I have been on hold with Disney for over 3 hours, I am trying to get a refund on park tickets as we cannot use them due to the closures. I am thankful they are taking care of their team members; but I am being told by each agent I speak to that they will not refund them; only move the dates. This is ridiculous for guests that have spent thousands to get here and lodge. They should absolutely be refunding our money for these tickets.
What about vacation club members?
