Walt Disney World posted a new casting call for “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure,” the new show scheduled to open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios next year.
Ariel & Eric Casting Call for ‘The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure’
Disney announced the new show, a replacement for “Voyage of the Little Mermaid,” in late 2023. The former show never reopened after the park’s 2020 shutdown. Disney originally stated that “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” would open in the fall of 2024. Disney first held auditions for Ariel and Eric actors and puppeteers in February 2024.
We recently learned the show had been delayed to the summer of 2025. The new audition post suggests casting may be an issue contributing to the delay.
Interested performers can find the posting on DisneyAuditions.com. Disney is seeking vocalists and actors for full-time and CT sub roles.
For Ariel, Disney is seeking actors 5’2″ – 5’6″. She is described as “A spirited, fun-loving, yet curious mermaid princess who longs to be a part of the human world.” She is a lyrical pop soprano with a belt to C. Performers are asked to sing “Part of Your World” for their online submission.
Eric, which is a non-singing role, is “Charismatic and fearless, […] a true romantic who never gives up on his heart’s desire.” Performers should be 5’10“- 6’0″.
The synopsis doesn’t reveal anything new:
“The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” is a fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic “The Little Mermaid.” Follow the beloved story of Ariel’s journey to be part of the human world. “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” will have guests flipping their fins to musical numbers inspired by the film, including “Part of Your World,” “Kiss the Girl,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” and more.
Submissions are due by Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 11:30 p.m. PT. Rehearsals are scheduled for the spring of 2025, potentially in March or April.
This summer, construction walls went up at the show’s exit in Animation Courtyard. Disney promised the theater would be refreshed. They also shared a first look at the new puppets and concept art. Some characters will appear via motion capture images.
