Evans last appeared in “Deadpool & Wolverine” in a surprise cameo as Johnny Storm from Fox’s “Fantastic Four.” He portrayed Steve Rogers / Captain America from “Captain America: The First Avenger” (2011) to “Avengers: Endgame” (2019). In the latter film, Steve was shown to have lived out his life in the past thanks to some time travel and was an old man in the present day. It was set to be Evans’ final appearance as the lead Avenger.

The exact nature of Evans’ return has not been revealed. He could be playing a variant of Steve Rogers. Robert Downey Jr., who played Tony Stark / Iron Man through the character’s “Endgame” death, is returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom.

“Avengers: Doomsday” is directed by the Russo Brothers and will be released in theaters on May 1, 2026.
