Faded Walt Disney World Road Sign Finally Replaced

During a recent trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we noticed Disney has finally replaced one of the Walt Disney World road signs that are so faded they’re practically illegible.

The faded signs are located above the road when leaving Disney’s Animal Kingdom. They’re some of the few remaining purple road signs, although the color is almost entirely gone aside from the red stripe and yellow lettering at the bottom.

Disney has replaced the sign on the right with the new blue design. It directs guests to take the next right for Disney’s All-Star Resort, Blizzard Beach, and Coronado Springs. The symbols are for SR 429 and Florida’s Turnpike North.

The sign on the left, though hard to read, directs guests straight ahead to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Magic Kingdom. More visible than the words are symbols for I-4, 192, Orlando International Airport, and Florida’s Turnpike South.

Highway road signs indicate Interstate 95 and State Road 192 straight ahead, with a direction to Wickham Road at the next right.

Pictured above is a photo of the signs before the replacement. Hopefully, the remaining faded signs will soon be replaced, likely with the blue signs that are becoming the standard at Walt Disney World.

The purple road signs were designed by Sussman/Prejza for Walt Disney World and Euro Disney (now known as Disneyland Paris). They were installed in the 1990s and were intended to create “a vehicular signing system that would be unique in spirit, clean, easy to follow, and capable of being expanded as the area continues to grow.”
