Crews have installed more structural elements on the new Test Track awning framework at EPCOT.
Test Track Construction
A large hole remains in the ground where the ride’s sign once sat. Closer to the building, crews tore out pavement to make way for the new awning. The ground has since been flattened but not repaved.
The initial framework for the awning was installed two weeks ago. Since then, crews have installed more horizontal beams on top of the structure. The beams jut forward beyond the vertical supports and widen the awning.
Scaffolding remains behind the new structure, where paneling was removed from below the ride’s exterior track. We saw one crew member working atop the awning.
Scaffolding has been taken down from the entrance of Test Track SIMporium. The gift shop’s sign remains in place.
Test Track is currently undergoing a reimagining to become a new version of the attraction. It closed in June and will reopen in late summer 2025. The ride initially opened in 1999, replacing the opening-day attraction World of Motion. It received its first major update in 2012, becoming “Test Track 2.0.” The new iteration will celebrate the history of transportation advancements, drawing inspiration from World of Motion. It will revert to its original General Motors sponsorship.
