Walt Disney Imagineering filed a construction permit for new projectors at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Permit
The address on the notice of commencement is 1305 Monorail Way, the location of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Tomorrowland. The general description is “Install projectors” and it contracts Maddox Electric Company, which has worked with Disney many times.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is inspired by the opening sequence of “Toy Story 2,” and opened at Magic Kingdom in 1998. It replaced Delta Dreamflight, which itself replaced If You Had Wings, and uses the same ride track. Its most notable use of projections is a long tunnel where guests shoot at Emperor Zurg’s ship, which is projected in space around them. In the queue is a Buzz Lightyear animatronic, which has a projected face. Disney could be replacing any or all of these projectors.
Versions of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin have existed at every Disney castle park under different names. The Tokyo Disneyland version, Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters, recently closed permanently. It will be replaced by a Wreck-It Ralph shooting attraction.
Other versions include Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters at Disneyland, Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast at Disneyland Paris, and Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue at Shanghai Disneyland. The Hong Kong Disneyland version, named Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, closed in 2017 for the construction of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle!
