REVIEW: “Disney Cruise Line’s Best Rotational Dining” Plaza de Coco 2nd Night Dinner on Disney Treasure

Katie Francis

Updated on:

A culinary collage featuring a dessert parfait, rice with meat and potatoes, tamales with sauce, roasted meat with sides, and shredded meat with rice and lime—perfect for experiencing rotational dining aboard the Disney Cruise Line's enchanting Disney Treasure.

Since the Disney Treasure sails for 5-7 night itineraries, some of the rotational dining locations get revisited. They often have a different menu and different entertainment for each night.

The first night guests dine at Plaza de Coco, they enjoy a quieter evening celebrating La Familia with music and dancing. The second night is a more exciting Día de los Muertos celebration.

As part of rotational dining, most items are included in the cost of the voyage. Alcoholic beverages and specialty non-alcoholic beverages are an additional cost.

Plaza de Coco Decor

Interior view of a themed room with brick walls and a colorful "Plaza de Coco" sign, captured perfectly in photos. A window casts blue light, while potted flowers brighten the floor.

The restaurant is beautifully themed, with many references to the film and its characters. Upon entering, you’re greeted with a sign for Plaza de Coco.

A decorated altar in Plaza de Coco with marigold flowers, candles, and offerings captures the essence of Día de los Muertos. Photos add a personal touch to this vibrant tribute.

A Rivera family ofrenda is also on display, featuring photos of Mama Coco, Mama Imelda, and Héctor. Marigolds are throughout this display.

Dimly lit, this charming restaurant near Plaza de Coco features rows of wooden tables and chairs, all beautifully decorated with hanging lanterns and tree branches on the ceiling.

In the main dining area, a center stage is surrounded by tables and chairs, and a large tree grows in one portion of the room. Popcorn lights dot the ceiling and line the windows around the perimeter.

The hallway features framed artwork, with photos that capture tender moments like a young boy kissing an elderly woman on the cheek. It's akin to walking through a gallery in Plaza de Coco, where each image tells its own story.

Photos of the Rivera family and other artwork line the walls as well, including this photo of Miguel with Mama Coco as seen in the film.

The dining table, elegantly set for dinner, features a pink napkin, utensils, glasses, and a candle casting flickering light in a dark setting. The atmosphere evokes the mystery and reverence of Día de Los Muertos at Plaza de Coco.

The table settings are very nice, with themed napkins and placemats.

The plateware is custom, and feature quotes from the film’s songs like “Remember Me” and “Proud Corazón.”

The marigold at the center of our table was even housed in a tealight featuring an illustration of Miguel.

Día de los Muertos Dinner Show

A decorative setup with a large white guitar and various items on a painted table graces the stage in a colorful, festive restaurant environment, echoing the vibrant spirit of Día de Los Muertos.

During the two dinners offered at Plaza de Coco, guests can enjoy two different shows alongside their meal.

Onstage at the Plaza de Coco Dinner Show, two performers in Día de los Muertos makeup—a vision in a purple dress and another striking in a blue suit—come alive under twinkling string lights. Nearby, a musician in vibrant red strums his guitar, adding to this video-worthy spectacle.

At the second dinner, guests will see Miguel reunite with his great-great-grandparents, Mama Imelda and Héctor.

With help from his magic guitar, Miguel transports his grandparents to Santa Cecilia’s town square, where a mariachi band and dancers are on hand to celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

Plaza de coco Bread Service Reviews

Dinner Rolls

A basket with three round bread rolls wrapped in a cloth sits on a table, accompanied by a knife and salt shaker. It's the perfect setup for a cozy dinner during Día de Los Muertos, bringing warmth and tradition to the festivities.

These are your standard dinner rolls, and are unadvertised on the menu, but are a kind of safety option for guests who eat vegan as an alternative to chips and salsa. They’re as good as you’d expect, and butter is, of course, included.

Chips and Salsa

A bowl of tortilla chips sits next to a vibrant dish of salsa and a glass of water on a restaurant table, perfect for a festive dinner during Día de Los Muertos at Plaza de Coco.

The salsa looks very tomato-y but tastes very good. The chips are also great.

Plaza de coco Entradas Reviews

Héctor Rivera’s Sweet Shrimp “Coctel”

Sweet Shrimp, Salsa Picante, Orange, Lime, Tomatoes, and Cilantro

A bowl of tomato soup with sliced onions, herbs, and cherry tomatoes sits on a striped placemat, perfect for a cozy night dinner.

The shrimp isn’t fishy, but a little slimy. The overall flavor is not bad, but the texture is off-putting.

Rating out of 7: 1

Beef Birria Empanada

Baked Pastry Turnover with Pulled Beef Brisket, Oaxaca Cheese, Pico de Gallo, and Birria Consommé

A baked empanada sits on a plate, accompanied by small bowls of salsa and sauce, perfect for a festive night dinner inspired by the vibrant Plaza de Coco.

While part of our group thought this was the best appetizer they’d had on the ship so far, another member of our group likened it to a Jamaican beef patty. It’s not bad. The ground beef is housed in a flaky, buttery pastry and is well-cooked. You get a lot of flavor from the Consommé. We’d highly recommend you try this.

Rating out of 7: 6

Celeriac, Herb Guacamole, Blue Corn Chips

Jalapeño Chile, Cherry Tomatoes, and Lemon Crema

A hand holds a bowl with guacamole, shredded vegetables, a cherry tomato, and blue corn chips—a vibrant dish perfect for savoring during the 2nd Night Dinner at Plaza de Coco amid the Día de Los Muertos festivities.

The blue corn chips are stale compared to our table chips, which were good. This appetizer could’ve been prepared a while ago.

A vibrant bowl featuring noodles, cherry tomatoes, guacamole, and two black tortilla chips sits elegantly on a striped placemat, reminiscent of a festive Día de Los Muertos dinner.

The guacamole is pretty unremarkable, and the dish overall is quite basic. That being said, the vegan version of this dish had incredible guacamole that was clearly prepared at a different time, so your mileage may vary.

Rating out of 7: 1

Red Chicken Enchiladas

Guajillo Spiced Red Enchilada Sauce and Chihuahua Cheese

A bowl of enchiladas topped with melted cheese and garnished with shredded radish, perfect for a festive night dinner during Día de Los Muertos at Plaza de Coco.

This isn’t bad! The chicken is tender and a bit chewy, but juicy. Flavor-wise, we think Disney may have been afraid to go too spicy with the chicken, which we think the dish could’ve benefitted from overall. We were told that Disney backed off on spiciness because some guests may not want spicy food.

The enchilada sauce offers a lot of flavor, and the cheese does as well. This is a very good, very cheesy dish, and is served as a nice, big portion.

Plaza de coco Ensaladas Reviews

Watermelon, Orange, and Jicama Salad

Endive, Avocado, and Lime-Demerara Sugar Dressing

A mixed salad with lettuce, yellow and red bell peppers, and other greens is served on a white plate with an orange-striped border, perfect for a Día de Los Muertos dinner.

This salad is very good. The fruit is fresh as are all the greens. It’s a nice light option, and also one of the few plant-based options as is. The sweetness of the fruit cuts the bitterness of the endive and the lime brings a necessary acidity.

Rating out of 7: 5

Romaine Wedge

Cotija Cheese, Toasted Corn, Pumpkin Seeds, Grape Tomatoes, Lime Crema, and Parsley Dressing

Plaza de Coco Sopa Reviews

Chipotle Black Bean Soup

Cilantro, Lime, Purple Onion, and Mamá Coco’s Pork Tamal

A bowl of thick, dark soup with sliced onions accompanies a corn husk-wrapped delicacy, capturing the essence of Día de Los Muertos. In the background, two glass bottles evoke the spirit of celebration at Plaza de Coco during the 2nd Night Dinner.

This is a fantastic dish. The soup alone is perfection, and we don’t really enjoy black beans. It’s got a complex flavor, and is obviously black bean heavy, but it’s not an overly dense soup.

The tamal is very good, and theme park tamales do not come out good very often. This is our favorite appetizer we’ve had the entire cruise.

Rating out of 7: 7

Chilled Avocado Soup

Goats Cheese, Cilantro, Serrano Chili, and Ricotta Salata

Some of us aren’t fans of cold soups, but the flavors are fine if a little bitter. This is inedible. We would not suggest you get this.

Plaza de Coco Platos Principales Reviews

Entrée Menu | Entrée Reviews

Ernesto de la Cruz’s Grilled Seafood and Tomato Rice

Jasmine Rice, Grilled Shrimp, Calamari and Scallops, Castelvetrano Olive, Caper, Pinto Bean, Green Onions, and Tomato

Pan-Seared Adobo Spiced Sea Bass

Rainbow Carrots, Green Asparagus, Savoy Spinach, Romanesco, Peas, Seared Scallop, Pea Tendrils, and Chimichurri

Blistered Poblano Pepper

Oaxaca Cheese, Cremini Mushroom, Spinach, Green Rice, Guajillo Sauce, Lime Crema

Michoacán Carnitas

Crisp Pulled Pork, Pickled Red Onions, Cilantro-Lime Rice, Guacamole, and Salsa Roja Asada

A blue plate with shredded meat, white rice, two sauces, pickled onions, and a lime wedge—perfect for a festive Día de Los Muertos feast.

This is not bad. The tortillas that came with the dish were a little doughy. The pork is cooked correctly and has a bit of a smoky flavor, though we wish there was more to it. The guacamole does nothing to uplift the dish, and the salsa roja asada is not potent at all. Despite that, we still enjoyed the dish.

Rating out of 7: 5

Imelda Rivera’s Roasted Chicken Breast Mole

Roasted Chicken Breast, Cacao Mole Sauce, Red Rice, Pickled Onion, Sesame Seeds, and Soft Flour Tortilla

This isn’t as spicy as we like our mole to be, but we were told ahead of time to not expect as much spice. This dish comes with a nice piece of roasted chicken breast and is very well-cooked, tender, and juicy. The rice is also good and presented in a cake-like slice that was interesting.

Rating out of 7: 5

Toasted Quinoa Bowl

Red and Brown Quinoa, Cilantro-Lime Potatoes, Garlic Black Beans, Avocado, Tomatillo Habañero Salsa, and Tostones

Enjoy a delightful dinner featuring a plate of quinoa with grilled chicken, roasted potato wedges, black beans, diced vegetables, sliced red onions, and fresh cilantro. Perfect for sharing at the Plaza de Coco during Día de Los Muertos celebrations.

The tostones are excellent! The potatoes are even better, super salty, very nice. Everything here is excellent and has tons of flavor. There’s a slight spiciness to this dish, which we appreciated.

A vibrant dinner plate features quinoa, black beans, potato slices, sliced avocado, red onion, and cilantro on a white dish. Perfect for savoring during Plaza de Coco's lively Día de Los Muertos celebrations.

Usually we’re not a fan of getting quinoa at restaurants because it can often come out bland, but both kinds are excellent here.

Rating out of 7: 6

Rib-Eye “De Corte Grande”

Oaxaca-Monterey Jack Cheese, Double-baked Potato, Buttered Broccoli, Sweet Honey-roasted Carrots, and Tamarind Port Wine Sauce

A close-up of a plate with slices of roast beef, mashed potatoes topped with a swirl, and a carrot captures the essence of a cozy dinner. A person's hand holds the plate, evoking the warmth and togetherness often celebrated during Día de Los Muertos.

While this doesn’t strike us as a Mexican dish, we loved this. The meat is perfect, so juicy and tender. The accompanying Tamarind Port Wine reduction is nice, a little sweet and tangy. The broccoli is well-cooked, and the twice-baked potato is great.

Rating out of 7: 7

Chef’s Special Pasta

A delightful dinner plate of penne pasta with cherry tomatoes and green pesto, elegantly arranged on a decorative dish, perfect for a cozy evening at Plaza de Coco during Día de Los Muertos.

We received this pasta while waiting for the quinoa bowl. Featuring some sort of oil, onions, sun-dried tomatoes, and pesto, this dish packs a ton of flavor and a huge portion. If we have any criticism to share, it is that the pasta is a little overcooked. We really enjoyed this.

Plaza de Coco Dessert Reviews

Miguel’s Churros Calientes

Sugar Spiced Churros, Warm Cajeta Caramel

A hand presents a vibrant platter with churros in a bowl and a cup of dipping sauce, reminiscent of the festive spirit found at Plaza de Coco during the Día de Los Muertos celebrations.

The churros are weirdly chewy, but not bad. The spiciness combined with the rich caramel is excellent. This would be a 7 on our rating scale if the churros were cooked correctly.

Rating out of 7: 6

Sunrise Spectacular Chocolate Cake

Chocolate Joconde Layered Cake, Raspberry Chocolate Crème, and Marigold Petals

A rectangular chocolate cake with yellow flower petals graces a decorative plate, its beauty reminiscent of a Día de Los Muertos celebration. Accompanied by a dollop of whipped cream drizzled with red syrup, it's the perfect ending to your 2nd Night Dinner at Plaza de Coco.

The cake is a quite dry and not super fresh. The raspberry chocolate cream is weird and doesn’t help the dish at all. It’s slightly above average but not anything to write home about.

Rating out of 7: 4

Grand Central Station Pecan Tart

Roasted Pecan Nuts, Brown Sugar Custard, and Salted Caramel Creme

A dessert tart on a plate with caramel sauce drizzle, perfect for a Night Dinner, topped with whipped cream and a chocolate piece.

The pie crust here sucks, it’s quite dry and kills the entire dish. The filling is perfectly fine, but the vessel is terrible.

Rating out of 7: 3

Cappuccino Crème Brûlee Cheesecake

Baked Vanilla Cheesecake and Caramelized Coffee Crème Brûlee

A slice of chocolate cheesecake with a small red berry on top, served on a decorative plate, sets the perfect ending to a festive Día de Los Muertos dinner.

We love this. It’s very coffee-heavy, as though we had just drank a cappuccino. The cheesecake is really good, and the plating is very nice.

Rating out of 7: 6

No Sugar Added Coconut Rice Pudding

Mango-Mint Salsa and Chili Chocolate Decor

A dessert in a glass with a circular striped rim, garnished with small flowers, held above a saucer. Perfect for a festive dinner celebration like Día de Los Muertos. A dessert and drink are on the table in the vibrant backdrop of Plaza de Coco.

There’s a light burn to the chili chocolate decor on top. For no sugar added, this is excellent.

Rating out of 7: 6

Héctor Rivera’s Sundae

Dulce de Leche Ice Cream, Banana Bread, Cinnamon Fried Tortilla, and Whipped Cream

A table set in celebration of Día de Los Muertos features a dessert in a glass cup, topped with whipped cream and triangular cookies. It's surrounded by drinks and other small dessert portions, creating a festive dinner spread reminiscent of the vibrant ambiance at Plaza de Coco.

This is so sweet and so good. If we could raise our rating to 8, we would!

Rating out of 7: 7

Strawberry Sorbet

A dessert glass holds a scoop of red sorbet, reminiscent of festive Día de Los Muertos colors. A person in a floral outfit is seated in the background, as if preparing for a vibrant dinner at Plaza de Coco.

This is a good sorbet, but not anything crazy. We were satisfied!

Rating out of 7: 7

Cookies and Cream Mousse Dome

A hand holds a plate with a chocolate dessert topped with white drizzle, sitting on crumbles, reminiscent of the sweet treats at Plaza de Coco. Fruit slices are artfully arranged on the side, perfect for savoring during a charming 2nd Night Dinner.

This is on the vegan menu. We would prefer this dessert to the sorbet when ordering from the vegan menu. It doesn’t quite have the richness of a standard dessert but for a vegan option, the flavor is really nice. It tastes particularly creamy for being vegan. There’s just a hint of the cookie in the cookies and cream on the back end.

Plaza de Coco Cocktail Reviews

Recuerdame – $16

Teremana Reposado, Ancho Reyes, Mango, Lime, and Marigolds

A glass filled with a red cocktail and ice cubes rests on a dark surface, illuminated by colorful lights reminiscent of a festive Día de Los Muertos celebration at the vibrant Plaza de Coco.

The Rock says this is a good drink! (It features his Teremanda Reposado tequila.) This is a solid margarita, we have no criticisms here! Mexico pavilion at EPCOT, take note!

This is very drinkable, offers a nice flavor, and you get to eat marigolds — what’s not to like?

Rating out of 7: 6

Batanga – $10

Código Mezcal Artesanal, Lime, Coca-Cola, and Fizzy Candy

This is a complicated cocktail! It’s weird but good. It reminds us of the Token drink from Jaleo at Disney Springs; this isn’t as good, but still enjoyable and interesting in its own way.

You don’t get a lot of Coca-Cola flavor in this, however. There’s a lot happening here.

Rating out of 7: 5

Michelada – $10

Terrapin Cerveza Lager, Clamato, Cholula Hot Sauce, Worcestershire Sauce, and Tajín

A glass mug filled with a bright red beverage sits on a table, reminiscent of festive offerings during Día de Los Muertos. The rim is coated with a dark spice blend, evoking flavors that would complement a spirited evening at Plaza de Coco.

Part of our review group had never had a Michelada that they actually liked, but we know that people who love this drink really love this drink.

This is not bad, though our group did not all agree. We did enjoy it more than the Micheladas from Disney California Adventure because it’s not as chalky. It’s very easy to drink, and obviously tomato-forward. It basically tastes like carbonated tomato juice, with maybe a little too much Tajín.

Rating out of 7: 3

plaza de Coco Zero-Proof Reviews

La Paloma – $8.50

Lyre’s Agave Blanco, Fever Tree Pink Grapefruit, and Wanderdust Shimmer

A pink cocktail with ice cubes sits in a glass on a wooden table, its rim sugared like the festive memories of Día de Los Muertos.

We would believe you if you told us there was alcohol in this, just because there’s so much going on. It’s light and refreshing, not syrupy at all. The grapefruit comes through but isn’t overpowering. It’s very drinkable, but you have to like grapefruit.

Overall Thoughts on Plaza de Coco

This is the best dining experience we had aboard the Disney Treasure, and our favorite Disney Cruise Line rotational dining of any ship we’ve ever been on. The incredible show made our entire group teary-eyed and cannot be beat.

This is fantastic, the food is great, and we highly recommend you schedule both Plaza de Coco nights during your cruise to experience both menus.
