The old Universal Orlando signs have been removed and construction is underway to replace them with new digital signs.

Universal announced in October that all five of the roadside signs would be replaced. The new signs will have similar designs, with the Universal Orlando Resort against a blue background in the center. But instead of the silver panels fanning out from the logo, there will be LED screens showing various videos, animations, and information, including images of IPs.

Pictured above is the former sign at the corner of Universal Boulevard and Hollywood Way, near the Universal Orlando parking garage entrance.

A banner with "Universal Orlando Resort" logos and theme park illustrations covers a fence, surrounded by palm trees and shrubs.

The sign is now gone, with scrim up around the location. The black scrim features the Universal Orlando Resort logo and skyline.

The decorative shrubbery and red flowers remain in front of the scrim. Though we couldn’t see through the scrim, the old sign does appear to be completely removed.

There is another sign across the street at Universal Boulevard and Hollywood Way.

It was the same story at the corner of Vineland Road and Universal Boulevard. Pictured above is the old sign and the scrim and fencing in the same area. We could see through this scrim and it was clear the sign was gone. No structural elements for the new sign were visible yet.

We last checked on South Kirkman Road and Major Boulevard. We could once again see through these scrims, confirming the old sign had been removed.

It was also clear here that parts of the new sign had yet to be installed.

The last sign, which we didn’t drive by, is at Turkey Lake Road and Hollywood Way.

Universal hasn’t announced an official timeline for construction.

  1. I love the reporting style of this site. 99% or the time, you show a “BEFORE” picture when there’s a change. Most other sites just show what the change was, and I have to Google what things looked like before, but you craft a story around news, contextualize them, and show the whole story. Kudos. I appreciate it because I don’t get out to Orlando often, so when I jump into the latest, your posts have the history leading up to what changed and I can get caught up! :)
