“I paid my ticket to be here,” a tourist said before she was arrested for refusing to budge during the Magic Kingdom fireworks and then poking the deputy who was escorting her out of the park, according to a newly released Orange County Sheriff’s report.
Guest Kicked Out of Magic Kingdom for Blocking Casey’s Corner and Poking the Sheriff
Dora Elena Alarcon Torres, 59, of Mexico, was arrested and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, records show.
She has pleaded not guilty and a March 10 trial is scheduled in Orange Circuit Court.
It’s the latest example of a Walt Disney World guest accused of behaving badly.
Her attorney, Jose Rivas said in a statement, “At this time, I am unable to comment on the pending case. With that being said, remember that everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The laws allow someone to be arrested on just probable cause which is a much lower standard than beyond a reasonable doubt, which is what is necessary to be convicted by a Jury. We are confident that we will be able to obtain a favorable outcome for my client.”
The alleged incident happened on a Saturday night just before Halloween. (It took the Orange County Sheriff’s Office more than three months to release the Oct. 19 arrest report.)
Alarcon Torres stood in front of Casey’s Corner in an area that wasn’t a designated fireworks viewing spot. She refused to listen to Cast Members when they repeatedly asked her to move to free up the path, the arrest report said.
Off-duty sheriff’s deputy Kaylee Koffinas intervened and asked Alarcon Torres to move.
“I paid my ticket to be here. No,” Alarcon Torres said without making eye contact with the deputy, according to the arrest report.
Disney decided to trespass her.
“I don’t care. I paid a ticket to be here,” Alarcon Torres repeated again, the arrest report said.
As the deputy escorted her to the park’s exit, Alarcon Torres poked the deputy’s vest with her finger and slapped the deputy’s arm, the arrest report said.
“Kaylee stated that while attempting to handcuff Dora, Dora began to resist her actively by not giving Kaylee her right arm and continued tucking her right hand. Kaylee stated that she had a pinky injury on her left hand due to this action,” the arrest report said.
The sheriff’s department interviewed Alarcon Torres who accused the deputy of being the one who pushed her.
“Dora stated she and her family went to different locations to try to watch the fireworks, but there were a lot of people in front of them,” the arrest report said. “Dora stated that at some point, Disney’s Cast Members came and requested that she move. Dora stated she was there to watch the fireworks and refused to leave.”
