REVIEW: New Plant-Based Rice Bowl with Impossible Meatballs Replaces Flatbread at Pecos Bill Cafe in Magic Kingdom

Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe at Magic Kingdom has removed the Grilled Masa Flatbread from their menu and added a Plant-Based Rice Bowl.

Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe

Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe is located in Frontierland. The Plant-Based Rice Bowl joins the Double Barbecue Bacon Cheeseburger and the create-your-own options: Steamed Tamale, Southwest Caesar Salad, Nacho Bowl, and Rice Bowl.

The new offering comes with Impossible meatballs, but guests can also add real chicken, beef, or pork for an additional charge. We tried the dish with just the meatballs.

with Impossible™ Meatballs in Red Chile Tomato Sauce, Pinto Beans, Cilantro-Lime Rice, Cowboy Caviar, and Lime “Crema”

A bowl of rice topped with mixed beans, corn, and meatballs, drizzled with white sauce.

This is a filling meal that could probably be split between two people. It came with four good-sized meatballs. The rice and beans are cooked as you’d expect. We assume the “crema” is not dairy-based since this is a plant-based dish.

The meatballs are seasoned and sauced well. We think the sauce could have been spicier, but it’s so mild that it won’t be overpowering for most. The lime “crema” added to the dish’s visual aesthetic but we didn’t taste it. The “cowboy caviar” consists of corn and chopped-up peppers. It adds a nice contrasting crunch to an otherwise soft meal.

This is a good vegan option and a good value. We’re not going to rush back to get this during every Magic Kingdom visit, but we liked it.
