The entire center structure of the Astro Orbiter has been removed as refurbishment work continues on the attraction at Magic Kingdom.

Astro Orbiter Refurbishment

A refurbished structure featuring a large, metal armature with two circular elements reminiscent of the Astro Orbiter stands proudly on a rooftop against a cloudy sky.

In our last update, we reported that additional pieces of the attraction had been removed, including the center spire on the ride’s structure. The center structure that typically holds the large spire atop a yellow planet has now been completely removed.

Above is a comparison for reference, with the ride in its complete form on the left and the recently dismantled structure on the right.

The outdoor futuristic theme park structure features the Astro Orbiter, a large metallic circular ride above. A red and white building stands on the right as visitors stroll below under a partly cloudy sky, evoking the enchanting atmosphere of Magic Kingdom.

Previously attached to the now-removed center structure was the framework that held smaller white globes. This has also been removed amid the refurbishment work.

A construction site with a large yellow crane on a truck, surrounded by barriers and building materials, hints at an ongoing refurbishment. In the background, an elevated walkway and people are visible near the Magic Kingdom's Astro Orbiter.

From the PeopleMover, construction equipment is still visible behind the walls including the large yellow crane, orange cones, pallets, yellow scaffolding, and ladders.

Construction work at Magic Kingdom's open space features a large yellow crane and various materials, with people walking nearby and futuristic Astro Orbiter structures in the background, signaling an exciting refurbishment underway.

Although the construction walls extend into the walkway between the PeopleMover and Buzz Lightyear’s Spaceranger Spin, The Lunching Pad remains open during this time. The seating area outside the quick-service dining location is also still accessible to guests.

The Astro Orbiter closed for refurbishment on January 13, 2025, and is scheduled to reopen in the summer of 2025.
