REVIEW: Tom Corless Made His Employee Eat Dog Food at Universal Studios Florida

Universal Orlando Resort is “celebrating” the release of the new DreamWorks film “Dog Man” with, well, dog food. And a tennis ball cupcake.

A yellow frosted cupcake in a cloud-patterned box sits next to an open can labeled "Puff Mix" on a speckled surface, reminiscent of Tom Corless's adventures at Universal Studios Florida.

The Ruff Mix Mac and Cheese and Greg the Dog Tennis Ball are available at DreamWorks Imagination Cafe. Discounts do apply to the two dog dishes.

Ruff Mix Mac and Cheese – $12.99

This mix comes in a can just like wet dog food. We would call it more “mac and beef” than “mac and cheese.” There isn’t much cheese to speak of.

A hand holds a can of pasta with meat sauce against a blue background, reminiscent of the vibrant sights at Universal Studios Florida.

It does look like dog food with some pasta mixed in. The meat smells like cafeteria food and isn’t seasoned. There’s not bite or spice — it’s just plain meat.

A hand holding a can labeled "Ruff Mix" filled with dog food is framed by leafy greenery, reminiscent of the lush surroundings you might find at Universal Studios Florida.

The pasta is curly and cooked well. But we can’t recommend this rough ruff mix. The can is cute if you want to go through the effort of cleaning it out and keeping it.

A hand holds a red can labeled "HASH," with part of the label peeled back to reveal hidden text. The background features a street intersection, complete with a sidewalk and red curb, reminiscent of scenes where passersby might pause to feed their pooch some dog food.

And if you’re okay with it just being a sticker on a Who Hash can.

Greg the Dog Tennis Ball – $6.49

A person holds a yellow frosted cupcake with a smiley face design in front of a promotional Dog Man movie poster outdoors at Universal Studios Florida.

This is a moist vanilla cupcake. It’s topped with peanut butter mousse that is smooth and melts. But it can be overpowering if you don’t love peanut butter.

It’s very sweet. The peanut butter mixed with the jelly filling is good. That almost bumps up the score but there isn’t enough jelly.

A hand holds a bright yellow cupcake, reminiscent of the vibrant treats at Universal Studios Florida, decorated with blue and white icing lines. Green foliage is blurred in the background.

So it’s edible but not life-altering. The hard outer shell also doesn’t look that much like a tennis ball, so it’s not the kind of Instagrammable treat you might be looking for.

“Dog Man,” a spin-off from “Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie” based on the graphic novel series, is in theaters on January 31.
