In December we reported that the marquee sign had been repaired and would likely be staying for the new show, “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure.” At that time, they had replaced the marquee’s backdrop while the sign for the show stayed the same.

The exterior of the closed movie theater, adorned with large posters for Voyage of the Little Mermaid, stands quietly under palm trees and overcast skies. The marquee above hints at past glories and dreams waiting behind its doors.

During our recent visit, the sign has now been removed. The removal could possibly be to replace it with a new marquee sign for the upcoming show set to debut this year. It also may return since they just invested in it.

“The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” will be located in the same theater in the Animation Courtyard as the former “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” show.

“Voyage of the Little Mermaid” never reopened after Walt Disney World closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney announced the new show in late 2023 and also claimed the theater would be refreshed. The show was to debut in the fall of 2024 but it has since been delayed to this year.

“The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” will use all new puppets along with digital imagery and motion capture to depict King Triton, Ursula, and Ariel’s sisters. The song “Daughters of Triton” will be performed by Ariel’s sisters and was not a part of the previous show. Ursula is also set to appear live on stage.

A large mural on the wall serves as a vibrant marquee, showcasing Ariel, Flounder, and King Triton from "The Little Mermaid," accompanied by the text "Voyage of the Little Mermaid.

The side of the building still displays the “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” billboard. The sign will likely be updated to include the new show name as it gets closer to the show’s opening.
