Walls Down, New Decorations Added to Fantasyland Theatre in Disneyland

Ahead of Disneyland After Dark: Sweetheart’s Nite 2025, changes have been made to the Fantasyland Theatre after recently being behind construction walls.

A crowd assembled outside the Fantasyland Theatre at Disneyland, where the entrance is adorned with new decorations. A large screen partially blocks the view as people stroll by, while someone navigates through on a mobility scooter.

Post holiday decorations and activities, Fantasyland Theatre in Disneyland was behind construction wall planters. However, we snapped this picture detailing some of the new decorations being added to the stage area.

The Fantasyland Theatre's outdoor stage boasts a decorative arch, shield emblem, and a large black screen above. New Disneyland-themed decorations complement the green and gold fencing in the foreground, adding a touch of enchantment to the setting.

Later, although still behind walls, we noticed that the decorative shield at the center of the proscenium arch has returned.

The Fantasyland Theatre at Disneyland unveils new decorations, showcasing a colorful stage design with a sun emblem on a blue arch adorned with star patterns, surrounded by intricate tree-like designs set against a lush green background.

Though it’s the image of the sun as seen in Tale of the Lion King which permanently closed after its final show in January 2024, the shield originally appeared in the set for Mickey and the Magical Map where it featured an image of the Sorcerer’s hat.

Now that the walls have been removed, we can see that emblems of stars and sparkles have been added. Some of which weave through the vine-like images upon royal blue banners on either side of the stage and on banners hanging from the top of the arch.

The ornate stage at Fantasyland Theatre features a blue and gold starry design with swirling patterns and wooden accents, reminiscent of Disneyland's enchanting style. A green backdrop with subtle design elements is visible on the side, enhancing the magical atmosphere with its new decorations.

These emblems of stars and sparkles are also somewhat reminiscent of the decorations for Mickey and the Magical Map, which was a fan favorite that didn’t return post Covid-19 closures and was replaced by Tale of the Lion King and subsequent dance parties ever since – including the new Royal Ball at this year’s Sweethearts’ Nite.

This of course adds to the growing list of similarities between the set decorations for the previously retired show and decorations for this new Sweethearts’ Nite show.

The image captures the enchanting Fantasyland Theatre at Disneyland, featuring a gold and blue curtain backdrop. Elegant chandeliers and decorative candelabras add to the magical atmosphere, beautifully complemented by new decorations on stage.

Other decorations include two hanging chandeliers on each side of the stage as well as two large, golden candelabras which are situated beside mini-perches with intricate railings.

The blue curtain is not a new addition as they use it as the backdrop for Imagination Campus and other performing groups.

The Fantasyland Theatre, now boasting new decorations, features an outdoor stage with blue and gold curtains and empty tiered seating. A few people are sitting on benches to the left, enjoying the serene setting.

It’s unclear if these changes are designed especially for the Royal Ball at Sweethearts’ Nite or for some unannounced purpose.

Disneyland After Dark: Sweethearts’ Nite is a hard-ticket event at Disneyland Park that is part of the Disneyland After Dark events. This year’s event runs on select nights between January 21 and February 13 and lasts from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on event nights.

This year’s event is sold-out; however, tickets for Disneyland After Dark: 90s Nite are still available. That event takes place on March 4 and March 5 for the 2025 season and has the same times as Sweethearts’ Nite.

Disneyland After Dark events feature uniquely themed entertainment, rare character meet & greets, and shorter waits on beloved attractions across Disneyland Park.
