Disney Informs Performers That “Mickey and the Magical Map” and “Frozen: Live at the Hyperion” Shows Will Not Return at Disneyland Resort

Two fan-favorite productions at both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure are reportedly going dark due to the impact of mass layoffs and the ongoing closure of the resort’s theme parks. Performers were informed via email late last night about the show closures.

The “Mickey and the Magical Map” and “Frozen – Live at the Hyperion” attraction pages are is still available on the Disneyland Resort website, however it seems these pages have not been updated at all since the COVID-19 closure. Both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure remain shuttered due to ongoing back-and-forth between state officials and Disney executives regarding reopening dates and guidelines. No reopening date has been identified or announced as of yet.

At Walt Disney World, many shows remain shuttered, like “Finding Nemo – The Musical” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and “Voyage of The Little Mermaid” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. However, we’ve seen the return of one Broadway-style show with the reopening of “A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration”, complete with physical distancing measures like staggered seating.

“Mickey and the Magical Map” premiered at the Fantasyland Theatre in Disneyland on May 25, 2013. “Frozen – Live at the Hyperion” brought the magic of a full-fledged Broadway production to Disney California Adventure, debuting on May 27, 2016. Our hearts go out to all performers and Cast Members affected by these layoffs.

Words can not describe how furious I am about this decision. When will Bobby C realize that Entertainment is what makes the parks what they are? Mickey and the Magical Map was one of my favorites and I hit it on every trip. This is just getting ridiculous.

oh great, Mickey And The Magical Map and Frozen Live At the Hyperion are both gone! looks like Disney will have to make two new shows when all of the entertainment returns to the parks

Its unfortunate that Disney wont be the same. I go regularly and dont want to go to be disappointed. I go for the “magic” and it seems to be disappearing. ( So sad.

This is very sad for both shows. I hope they change there mind about mickey and the magical map. For the longest time I’ve had an idea at the hyperion theater for a Newsies show based on the Broadway show. Kinda add more Broadway into the west coast parks. What do you think?

I picked the wrong time to take my family to Disneyland for the first time. (We’ve had tickets since Spring.) They won’t get to experience what I have at Disney parks. Even sadder for the cast members being laid off. They truly seem sad to be leaving.

I am very sad that I never got the chance to see Frozen Live At The Hyperion when I was at California Adventure but I got very lucky to have seen Mickey And The Magical Map twice(February 2018 and June 2019). But I can’t wait to see what replaces both shows(maybe Frozen 2 Live at the Hyperion and a original show in Fantasyland)!
