‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Could Suffer One of the Worst Box Office Drops in MCU History

“Captain America: Brave New World” is projected to suffer one of the worst box office drops in MCU history despite its success and potential to remain on top of the box office through the weekend.

Deadline is reporting that the film “is estimated to bring in around $28 million domestically during its second weekend, which would be a substantial 68% decline from its debut.” Other MCU films with similar drop rates include “Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” “Thor: Love and Thunder,” and “Black Widow.” Each of these films fell between 67% and 67.8%, a rate reported by Comicbook.com.

“Captain America: Brave New World” opened with the biggest weekend of the year for 2025, but could end up as the third-lowest drop of all time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

On opening weekend, Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson’s Captain America) surprised guests by arriving unannounced to a screening of Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: Brave New World” at the AMC theater in Disney Springs. After a few moments of stunned silence, guests sitting in the theater started cheering and taking Mackie’s photograph. Mackie carried a bowl of popcorn down to the first row of the theater, where he spent a few moments interacting with the audience and thanking them for supporting the film.

The film throws us back into the MCU as Sam Wilson continues to adjust to his role as the new Captain America. With shield in hand, new gear from some Wakandan allies, and a familiarly winged sidekick, Sam has to deal with newly-elected President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) and his questionable decisions, both current and past.
