Timed to coincide with the release of “Captain America: Brave New World” on February 14, Disney has released a wave of new specialty food and drink items themed to Captain America. We tried all of the new items at Pym Test Kitchen, Pym Tasting Lab, Shawarma Palace, and Shawarma Too in Disney California Adventure.
Cheese Pizza Pocket – $9.99
Mozzarella and house-made marinara sauce wrapped in empanada dough

The pastry dough is fantastic, but the filling is the same basic flavor one would expect of a Disneyland quick pizza. Plus, no aspect of this dish feels like themed food related to Captain America (other than maybe being vaguely shield-shaped). It is not bad by any standard, and it would be great for any picky eaters, but we can’t recommend going out of your way to get it.

Pepperoni Pizza Pocket – $10.49
Pepperoni, Mozzarella, and house-made marinara sauce wrapped in empanada dough

The pepperoni pocket is the same basic flavor as the cheese version with an added meaty taste. The empanada pastry is still easily the best part of the dish. We liked this one more than the plain cheese pocket, but it would still not be our pizza go-to item in Disney California Adventure.

Red Gamma Gulp – $7.29
Red velvet cold brew with cream cheese cold foam

We aren’t really sure what this drink tastes like, because the flavor is definitely not red velvet cake. The texture of the drink is extremely thick, almost like a mocha smoothie. It is a serviceable cold brew if you are in need of one.

Red Rage Wings – $12.49
Spicy chicken wings tossed in habanero sauce, served with potato bites and ranch dressing

This rating comes with a bit of a caveat, because the reporter who tried them isn’t a huge fan of chicken wings and has a low tolerance for spice. Objectively, these are among the spiciest items we have ever tried at Disneyland Resort. The chicken is cooked perfectly and is quite tender. If they were being reviewed by someone who likes very spicy wings, these could easily have a high score.

Liberty Punch – $18.50
Litmus Lemonade layered with blue Hawaiian and topped with citrus meringue foam

The Liberty Punch is very similar to the Patriotic Punch that was originally released for “Rogers: The Musical” back in 2023, but now with a new name. This drink is easily our new favorite from Pym Test Kitchen. While the drink might look like one of those photograph-driven beverages that favors appearance over taste, the layers actually blend together and create a refreshing tropical flavor.
