Construction at Tortuga Tavern in Magic Kingdom continues with the new flooring now partially in place.
Tortuga Tavern Flooring Work Update
As we reported in early January, the scheduled re-opening of the quick-service location was delayed indefinitely. Last week, the flooring was completely removed, with the refurbishment work hidden behind planter boxes.
As of this week, new flooring is now being installed at the location. Primarily comprised of large gray tiles, the updated flooring also includes rows of red bricks.
In the foreground of the photo above, a full section is installed; just beyond is a section where the brick has been laid but the gray tiles are missing. Columns in the area are wrapped in plastic to avoid damage during construction.
From the opposite angle, wood framing for brick installation can be seen. Peeking through to the inside of the venue, the flooring appears complete, so it seems that the only visible remaining flooring to install is in the patio area.
The restaurant’s webpage on the Walt Disney World website does not show operating hours through April 4, 2025, but this does not necessarily mean that the location will be closed that long. It is possible that Disney will not update operating hours for the eatery until a firm re-opening date has been set. It has been closed since June 2024.
The pirates-themed locale started life as El Pirata y el Perico Restaurante before being renamed Tortuga Tavern in 2011. The current name references the island of Tortuga, a central location in the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise, where Captain Jack Sparrow recruits a new crew for adventure in “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.” When the seasonally operating tavern is open, guests can spot easter eggs from the films.
From August to November 2024, the venue temporarily became Tortuga Treasures, a pop-up merchandise location, while Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar was under refurbishment.
