The full trailer for the live-action “How to Train Your Dragon” has been revealed ahead of the film’s upcoming release in theaters on June 13, 2025.
“How to Train Your Dragon” Trailer
This new trailer is the full version of the teaser for the film that debuted during the Super Bowl. The 30-second ad showed Hiccup flying on Toothless with music from the original animated film.
The new movie stars Mason Thames as Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid, as well as Gerard Butler, Nick Frost, and Julian Dennison. The film is a remake of the 2010 DreamWorks Animation movie “How to Train Your Dragon,” and the franchise is inspired by the book series written by Cressida Cowell.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, writer and director Dean DeBlois discussed the film’s beginnings.
With the rushed production schedule and the limited resources that we had on that first movie for DreamWorks, there were things that we skipped past that we could have maybe done a little more justice to — some of the characters, some of the depth of relationships and the immersive action.
It’s a reimagining that holds quite faithful to the story and yet finds moments where we could enrich character relationships, give a bit of depth, give a little bit of mythology that might have been lacking in that original.”
DeBlois also mentioned that the team was cautious when creating the dragons and did their best not to make them too anthropomorphic. Deblois explained,
The challenge has been upon our animators to do exactly what our DreamWorks animators had to do, which is watch a whole lot of dog, cat and horse videos and find those cues that we humans interpret as being the attitudes that we want to be expressed, so that we don’t sacrifice personality.
The trailer for the new live-action film features Hiccup speaking to Astrid about the new dragon that he’s befriended, Toothless, and the connection Hiccup has with him. In the trailer, Hiccup says “I’m the first Viking who wouldn’t kill a dragon,” to which Astrid responds, “First to ride one, though.”
