During our visit to Animal Kingdom, we discovered that the purple 3D glasses used at MuppetVision 3D were also in use at It’s Tough to Be a Bug instead of the usual black bug-themed glasses.
It’s Tough to Be a Bug

Just yesterday Disney announced the imminent closure of It’s Tough to Be a Bug at Disney’s Animal Kingdom to make way for the new show, Zootopia: Better Zoogether! Its last day of operation will be March 16, 2025, as it closes forever on March 17, 2025.

The purple 3D glasses were organized in bins within the queue line for guests to pick up before entering the theater to watch the show.

Upon exiting the show the bins where guests drop off their 3D glasses still display artwork of the bug-themed glasses on the exterior of the bin. According to a Cast member we spoke with, it’s unlikely the bug-themed glasses will return since the attraction will be closing next month.

It’s Tough to Be a Bug is a 3D film and live show that’s inspired by the Pixar film “A Bug’s Life.” During the show hosted by Flik, guests become “honorary bugs” and learn how insects survive in the wild. The show is housed within the Tree of Life, the centerpiece of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and was an opening-day attraction.

Zootopia: Better Zoogether! will feature characters from the film “Zootopia” like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. Disney shared a sneak peek at an all-new song that will be part of the new show when it opens this winter 2025.
