Construction walls have come down from the Disney California Adventure entrance, revealing work on the new entry gates is halfway done. Walls are still up at the Disneyland entrance, but new screens have been installed above one section.

In December, the first section of new entrance gates opened at Disneyland. Construction walls then went up around this center section for the next round of gates. Visible over the walls are the new digital screen signs.

The screens sit in white frames, matching the turn-of-the-century architecture of the entrance. They have not yet been turned on. The screens above the open gates also haven’t been in use, but they will presumably let guests know what lanes are open.

There are no construction walls at the Disney California Adventure entrance currently but work isn’t done. Only the right half of “tapstiles” haven’t been replaced.
The new gates feature built-in screens that may eventually provide facial recognition entry. They have semi-transparent gates with a Carthay Circle-inspired design on them. They are not yet fully functional, with Cast Members still manually scanning guest tickets.
In the photo above, the old tapstiles are on the left while the new ones are on the right, showcasing the differences between the two.
There are also digital screens hanging above the Disney California Adventure gates that haven’t been activated yet.
At Disney California Adventure, the screens display a “Welcome” message and a picture of Mickey’s Fun Wheel. At Disneyland, they show Sleeping Beauty Castle.
The gates will officially open at both parks with full functionality sometime this year.
