Disney filed a more detailed construction permit for the repainting of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster guitar at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Guitar
Disney initially filed a permit for repainting the guitar in February. That one said “Contractor shall sand, apply one coat of primer, and two coats HP finish.”
The new Notice of Commencement is essentially an updated version of the last. It still contracts Harrison Contracting Co. Inc. for the work. The new description reads:
Contractor shall sand, apply one coat of primer and two coats HP [high performance] finish. Contractor shall spray the body of the guitar. Contractor shall scaffold guitar with one layer of scrim.
These permits may be the first steps in reimagining Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster into a Muppets coaster featuring Kermit and Miss Piggy teaming up with Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem “for a rockin’ music festival.” The reimagining was announced alongside the reveal that Muppet*Vision 3D would permanently close to make way for a “Monsters, Inc.” land. While we know the closing date for Muppet*Vision, a closing timeframe hasn’t been announced for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. The Muppets will also take over Rock Around the Shop.
We don’t know if the guitar will retain its red and white color scheme or get a fresh look more inspired by the Electric Mayhem. The giant guitar was last repainted during a 2021 refurbishment.
Next door to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, the Sunset Showcase Theater is being transformed for the Disney Villains to take over. The theater was most recently home to Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy. “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” will open in the space this May. “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” will also soon open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
