The industrial facility interior, reminiscent of "Monsters Inc.," features metallic machinery and piping structures. An angular ceiling and grid-like arrangement of equipment are visible, adding an eerie sense to the black-and-white image.

Monsters Inc. Door Coaster Cars Will Also Be Able to Rotate

The seats of the “Monsters, Inc.” door coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will rotate.

Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster

Animated characters Sulley and Mike from Monsters, Inc. are escaping through a door on a roller-coaster-like track, akin to a suspended coaster, while riders in yellow seats watch the scene. A child is held by Sulley.

A new episode of “We Call It Imagineering” all about ride vehicles features an extended animation of the load area of the new “Monsters, Inc.” ride. It will be Disney’s first suspended coaster and feature their first-ever vertical lift.

The concept rendering, which we first glimpsed during SXSW, shows how the ride seats will be lifted into the air. Each pair of seats then individually rotates to face forward as they head into the ride vault. This means each pair of guests on the coaster could potentially face different directions during the experience.

Imagineers also said guests will see other coaster trains in the door vault.

A detailed white architectural model of a themed building complex is on display, encased in glass, with several people observing it in the background—reminiscent of something straight out of a Monsters Inc. storyboard at D23.

The ride track was revealed at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event last summer.

Monstropolis will take over Grand Avenue, current home of Muppet*Vision 3D. The iconic Muppets attraction will close, as will PizzeRizzo and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano. Concept art indicates the Monsters, Inc. coaster will be at the back of the land, in an area that is currently backstage. Mama Melrose’s will become Harryhausen’s. The Muppets theater will become a new Monsters theater.

The Muppets will move across the park to take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

“We Call It Imagineering” also contained behind-the-scenes looks at a new “Cars” attraction, Avengers: Infinity Defense, Stark Flight Lab, and Raiponce Tangled Spin.
