The new episode of “We Call It Imagineering” revealed the possible track layout for one of the new “Cars” rides coming to Magic Kingdom.
‘Cars’ Ride Track Layout
We just got a first look at ride vehicle concept art for the “Cars” attraction during SXSW 2025. Some of the same information plus new clips are featured in the episode, called “Let’s Ride.” It goes behind the scenes of ride vehicle creation with the Ride Engineering team.
There are brief glimpses of a simple white mockup for the track of the new “Cars” ride. We don’t know if this is the final track layout or how early in development this mockup was created. But it gives as an idea of the potential twists and turns guests will experience on the ride.
The attraction has a new type of ride vehicle meant to recreate an off-roading experience. Imagineers took an off-roading research trip to Arizona and then commissioned a dirt track to race on. The customized vehicles have sensors all over them and a range of motion similar to the vehicles of DINOSAUR and Indiana Jones Adventure. Each vehicle will be a new character with its own name, number, and personality.
The ride takes guests and “Cars” characters out of Radiator Springs into the frontier. It will be part of a “Cars” expansion to Frontierland also including a family ride. The expansion takes over the Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America footprint.
