Sign Down at Main Street Opera House in Preparation for New Walt Disney Show

Disneyland’s Main Street Opera House will soon be home to a new Walt Disney audio-animatronic show, and in preparation, the sign for The Disneyland Story Presenting Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln has been removed.

“Walt Disney – A Magical Life” at the Main Street Opera House will debut the first-ever Walt Disney animatronic.  It was set to open along with the park’s 70th Anniversary Celebration in May, but earlier this month, it was announced that the opening would be delayed by about 2 months.

Under a clear blue sky, the historic Opera House stands proudly on Main Street, flaunting its beige walls and red awnings. With its decorative architectural elements and trees in the foreground, it feels like stepping into a scene crafted by Walt Disney himself.

The red and gold sign normall spans above the entire entrance to the Main Street Opera House, and has been removed entirely. It’s unknown if the old sign will be updated to reflect the new offering, or if there will be a new sign entirely.

The image captures the timeless charm of a vintage-style opera house facade on Main Street, with large arched windows and a prominent sign above. A few people and a bare tree are in the foreground, evoking an enchanting scene reminiscent of a classic Walt Disney show.

The show will use new technology and archival voice recordings to bring Walt Disney to life in his office. The show was previously scheduled to open on May 16, 2025, the day the anniversary celebration begins.

It will now open with new Main Street Opera House exhibits on the resort’s actual anniversary: July 17, 2025.

For an initial run, “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” will be the only show playing in the Main Street Opera House. It will then rotate with “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.”

“I speak for our entire team when I say there is so much pride and excitement for everyone involved in this endeavor,” Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro said about the show at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. “Creating our first Walt figure is a huge responsibility, and we’ve brought members of the Disney family along with us for every step of the journey.”
