Mara Jade might not be part of the “Star Wars” canon anymore, but Disney is still giving fans the opportunity to take home her iconic purple lightsaber.
Mara Jade Lightsaber Set – $325
The Emperor’s Hand Limited Edition Legacy Lightsaber set showcases the character’s transition from an assassin for Palpatine to a Jedi and Luke Skywalker’s wife. It includes a Legacy Lightsaber hilt, a limited edition of the Legends comic book “Star Wars: Mara Jade – By The Emperor’s Hand” issue #1 with a variant cover, an individually numbered certificate, and a wooden box.
The hilt is mostly silver with a black ring near the emitter and will illuminate a blade (sold separately) purple. This lightsaber actually originated from promotional artwork, which gave Mara Jade a unique hilt and purple blade to make her stand out. The sword was later retconned to be canonical as the lightsaber she constructed when she was an Emperor’s Hand. She later wielded Anakin’s blue lightsaber.
The set comes in a gray box with sliding doors that feature half of the Empire’s emblem on one door and the New Jedi Order symbol on the other.
The limited edition set will be available starting at 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET on Saturday, March 8 the Disney Store (the link will be inactive until release). It will also be available at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland Park. The set has a limited edition of 3,500.
This is the first Legacy Lightsaber inspired by a character introduced in Star Wars Legends (the stories dubbed non-canonical when Disney acquired the franchise) who has not been made canon. Mara Jade first appeared in Timothy Zahn’s 1991 novel “Heir to the Empire” as an assassin attempting to kill Luke Skywalker. She later escaped the Empire and fell in love with Luke. There have been several rumors that she could become canonical again, maybe appearing in a live-action “Star Wars” movie or series, especially following the reintroduction of Thrawn, who also first appeared in “Heir to the Empire.”
