As the repainting work on the bioluminescent pavement continues at Pandora – The World of Avatar in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a newly painted section has now reopened to guests.

Bioluminescent Path Repainting Continues in Pandora

A surreal, alien-like landscape features floating rock formations and exotic, bioluminescent plants under a blue sky with clouds, reminiscent of Pandora from Avatar.

The work on repainting the bioluminescent pavement in Pandora – The World of Avatar began in January of this year. Cast Members have been repainting one section at a time, starting from the back of the land close to the entrance for Avatar Flight of Passage, and have been progressively moving out toward the front of the land. The bridge running through the center of Pandora and the pavement near the entrance to Na’vi River Journey was repainted in mid-February.

The latest section of pavement to receive a fresh coat of UV-reactant paint is located close to the entrance of Pandora, between the Wilderness Explorer spot and the large Flaska Reclinata plant.

Amid lush greenery and a serene pathway, people gather at a thatched-roof stall reminiscent of Pandora - The World of Avatar. Their surroundings, almost bioluminescent, echo nature's wonders as if ready to reopen to guests seeking an otherworldly experience.

The path to the right of the Wilderness Explorers spot is now back open for guests and has no more plastic barriers lining the walkway.

A cracked, weathered pathway reminiscent of Pandora, surrounded by wooden railings and lush vegetation. Scattered leaves adorn the path as if leading you into a world of Avatar's mystical bioluminescent areas.

While the obvious benefit of the fresh paint is that it will glow better once the sun sets, the paint is also visible during the day in shades of light green, pale blue, and white.

A fascinating fossil impression of a fern leaf is embedded in the rock's surface, its cracks weaving patterns reminiscent of Pandora's lush landscapes from the World of Avatar.

The paint is intentionally designed to look like veins and leaves patterned on the ground to match the overall ambiance of Pandora.

The repainted section extends to reach the left-side large boulders located in front of the Flaska Reclinata. In the above image, we can see where the repainted pavement on the left path is much brighter and more noticeable than the paint on the main walkway or on the right path.

It is expected that the walkway leading toward the land’s main entrance will be repainted next. The last time the bioluminescent paint was refreshed in Pandora – The World of Avatar was in early 2024, but the constant foot traffic in the land wears down the details of the paint rather quickly. It is nice to see Cast Members taking good care of the land and making sure the pavement will help provide the best guest experience.
