Due to upcoming construction at Disneyland Resort, runDisney races will go on hiatus starting in 2026.
Disneyland runDisney Races Going on Hiatus
Read the official statement from runDisney:
Due to upcoming construction impacts, runDisney races at the resort will be placed on hiatus in 2026 after the conclusion of the 2026 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend.
One of the things runDisney participants enjoy most about our races is running through our theme parks as they enjoy special entertainment and character experiences. Due to upcoming construction impacts, we will be unable to provide guests with the race experience that our participants have come to expect from our events.
For fans who love to experience runDisney events, we will continue to offer races at Walt Disney World Resort, as well as virtual offerings.
The previously announced 2026 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend will continue as planned. The Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend is also happening this fall. It is possible that this hiatus could last for an extended period of time, as work on the DisneylandForward project begins and moves toward completion.
Disneyland Resort won’t be able to host races because of their plethora of construction projects in the works. The Anaheim City Council approved the DisneylandForward expansion project in May 2024 after being initially approved in its first vote that April. The plan went into effect 30 days from its second approval, on June 7.
Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure will double in size with new rides Avengers: Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab. The park will also get a new “Avatar” land. Other proposed additions include more hotels, retail, dining, and entertainment on the edges of Disneyland Resort. Disney recently purchased a warehouse that may support construction.
It’s not just theme park expansions that are on the table with this project; Disney has committed to spending at least $1.9 billion on Disneyland Resort over the next 10 years with DisneylandForward, up to $2.5 billion. $30 million of that will go toward affordable housing, with $15 million in the first year and $15 million in five years; $10 million will go to sewer improvements along Katella Avenue; and $8 million will go to Anaheim city parks within the first year. Disney will also pay $40 million to obtain Magic Way, which spans 1,150 feet in length from Disneyland Drive to Walnut Street, as well as two entry drives into Disney parking at Hotel Way and Clementine Street.
Last year, the 2025 Disneyland Half Marathon traveled along a course that went around and through the entire resort. Eventual construction and potential roadwork will likely impact runDisney courses at Disneyland Resort, leading to this hiatus.
This is the second time runDisney races have taken a major hiatus at Disneyland Resort. Races returned to the resort in 2024 after seven years with the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend. The Halloween Half Marathon Weekend debuted that fall.
