On Wednesday morning, they were taking down the famous birdcage. The roof was already gone. Small pieces of blue painter’s tape were around the top of the birdcage.

The decorative exterior paneling of the birdcage’s base was gone from three out of four sides. Some paneling was also removed from inside the cage.

The birdcage once held a tree and real birds but they have been absent from the resort for years.

The renovated lobby will pay homage to the birdcage with a new bar, as seen in the concept art. The birds will love on through stained glass and murals around the atrium. The cage-style elevator will remain across from the birdcage bar.

The staircase and front desk will also be refreshed with a mix of botanical accents and colors to create a more garden-like atmosphere.

Work is set to continue through at least November 2025 and the classic Victorian-style gingerbread house will not return this year due to construction.
