Actors perform in the Stage Show "Untrainable Dragon" on a fantasy set at Epic Universe, thrilling the audience.

“The Untrainable Dragon” is a show that originally premiered at Universal Studios Beijing, though the show was simply called “Untrainable” in its previous version. The Epic Universe version of the show marks its first time performing in the United States. The show runs approximately 20 minutes in length.

The show includes a scene with a massive puppet version of Toothless flying over the audience. Toothless weighs 1,157 pounds and has a wingspan of nearly 27 feet, according to the official Universal website.

The main plot of the show involves the Vikings of Berk building a new hatchery for dragon eggs. An angry dragon arrives and attempts to destroy the building, with Astrid and Gobber being unable to calm the dragon down. Astrid goes to seek Hiccup’s help, but he is also unable to make the dragon relax.

After the irate dragon destroys a section of Berk and leaves, Hiccup is depressed by his failure. Astrid takes Hiccup to the hatchery to remind him of all their successes, and the pair watch as several baby dragons hatch out of their eggs. Hiccup finds one unusual egg, which he realizes belongs to the “untrainable” dragon. Hiccup reunites the egg with its mother, and the baby dragon hatches onstage as part of the show’s heartwarming conclusion.

Three actors bring the Untrainable Dragon to life on stage with a colorful puppet and cart in a vibrant fantasy set.

In addition to the large puppet of Toothless, the show also includes a full-scale puppet of the “untrainable” dragon and some smaller puppets to represent baby dragons. Several of the set pieces, including the large archways for the hatchery, are erected onstage as part of the opening scene.

While the show has been running for several weeks during the Epic Universe preview period, Team Members have now confirmed with us that guests watching the performance are now allowed to take pictures and video recordings.
