Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan appeared onstage at CinemaCon on Thursday to present exclusive clips and first-look visuals from “Zootopia 2,” in theaters this Thanksgiving. Though Disney didn’t share the clips online, they did post two images and announced Quinta Brunson had joined the cast.
First Look at ‘Zootopia 2’
Brunson portrays the therapy animal — or should we say animal therapist? — Dr. Fuzzby, a quokka.
According to Quan, new police partners Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps are “going through a rough patch,” so they are sent to partners counseling with Dr. Fuzzby.
In one of the clips shown at CinemaCon, Judy and Nick are alongside several interesting partners, like an elephant and a mouse, at a group therapy meeting. Judy says, “We have been partners for one week, and we are not dysfunctional at all. […] Us being here seems like a misunderstanding.” Dr. Fuzzy points out the “disconnected affectation of her emotionally insecure partner.” (via Deadline)
The second clip featured Nick and Judy investigating a snake sighting in a swamp. There, they meet a beaver (Nibbles, voiced by Fortune Feimster) with “her own way of communicating.”
Quan voices Gary De’Snake, Zootopia’s first snake. Quan said, “Like me, he is terrifying and villainous. […] Gary kicks off the whole mystery when he turns up and panics the town.”
Disney shared this description of “Zootopia 2”:
In the all-new story, Nick and Judy find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the animal metropolis upside down. To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before. From the Oscar-winning team of Disney Animation chief creative officer Jared Bush and Byron Howard (directors) and Yvett Merino (producer), Zootopia 2 releases in theaters Nov. 26.
Jason Bateman, the voice of Nick Wilde, introduced the CinemaCon segment as “ZinemaCon, Celebrating the Animal Experience.” He and Ginnifer Goodwin (Judy Hopps) are both returning for the sequel, as is Shakira as pop star Gazelle.
