Announced during the 20th anniversary Lucasfilm Animation panel at Star Wars Celebration Japan, a new “Star Wars” Darth Maul animated series is coming to Disney+ in 2026.
Darth Maul Animated Series Coming to Disney+

Titled “Maul – Shadow Lord, the new series will see the return of Sam Witwer to voice the villain. Witwer first portrayed Maul in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” and later reprised his role in “Star Wars Rebels” and the 2018 film, “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” This new animated series will be set after the events of the final season of “The Clone Wars,” when Maul “rises again to lead the underworld factions,” per Star Wars.
Athena Portillo, vice president of animation for Lucasfilm, appeared onstage with CCO Dave Filoni, saying that fans can expect to learn “a lot” about Maul in the new series.
Unfortunately I can’t tell you too much, but what I can say is Sam Witwer’s involvement in this show has been pristine. I’m very excited about him being able to review the scripts and provide input in all of that as well. Dave Filoni and Sam created the character for animation, and so it’s very important to hear his thoughts as well for the character depth.

The announcement also included an in-room only sizzle showing off an early look at the series’ new animation style. The show is currently in production, and will premiere on Disney+ in 2026.
Other announcements shared at Star Wars Celebration Japan include the title of Shawn Levy’s new “Star Wars” film with Ryan Gosling confirmed to star, and a new logo and first images from “The Mandalorian and Grogu.”
