Recently, Disney Cruise Line was experiencing some major plumbing issues aboard its oldest ship, the Disney Magic.

According to TheStreet, Disney Cruise Line has experienced multiple plumbing incidents over the last few weeks. Reportedly, these incidents occurred aboard the Disney Magic, including plumbing leaks and backups aboard the ship.

One incident on the Disney Magic occurred on March 29 during a seven-night Bahamian cruise from Galveston, Texas to San Juan, Puerto Rico. A passenger on the ship shared a video on the Disney Cruise Line (DCL) community on Reddit, showing water dripping from the ceiling of the ship’s atrium.

The post from Reddit user @tst2018 on March 30 read,

Currently on the Disney Magic and there is a huge leak from the 5th floor midship down to the atrium on the 3rd floor. It started yesterday afternoon and it is still ongoing today and looks like has worsened. Floors 3/4/5 midship closed with activities canceled/moved and you also need to go to other floors to go from forward to aft.

While at sea, Disney did their best to handle the situation until they could address the issue more thoroughly once the ship arrived at port on March 31.

Another Reddit user, @5toes_2007, commented,

I was on this sailing and at times it was gushing ouit [sic]. Today as soon as we docked they had a lift up there, and by the time we went to disembark they had scaffolding up by the grand staircase.

Earlier in March, other passengers reported sewage backups in certain staterooms on the ship. Another passenger in the DCL Reddit community shared their experience aboard the ship, stating,

What compensation would you find acceptable for having a sewage backup in your room? It was a ship issue and affected multiple rooms, no alternate rooms available. Poop on the carpet. Cleaned and dealt with immediately but so gross.

Other users have commented on the thread, sharing similar incidents they’ve experienced aboard the ship. One person wrote,

Happened to us on the Magic back in October. Our bathroom flooded with poop water THREE times. It was so gross. We got a $150 OBC plus some rice krispies treats and a bag of popcorn. Not enough in my eyes. Wewere [sic] in room 2084 when this happened. The whole deck seemedto [sic] smell of sewage, so I am sure we weren’t the only ones it was happening to.

The Disney Magic is 27 years old and last underwent refurbishment in 2023. Most mainstream cruise lines expect to get around 30 years of service out of each ship, meaning the Disney Magic is not far from that mark.

Disney has three new ships planned for 2029, 2030, and 2031. Each will hold a capacity of about 3,000 passengers, which is larger than the 2,700-passenger limit of the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder but smaller than other ships of the Disney Cruise Line fleet.
