In an Instagram post, Senior Production Designer, Jim Casey shares a behind the scene look at concrete work in Adventureland. He begins by stating the each step in the process is literally set in stone with no room for second guessing or mistakes.

Cracked and dry pavement with scattered small rocks, bordered by a metal railing and a low stone wall, reminiscent of paths imagined by Walt Disney Imagineering in Adventureland's enchanting realm.

Looking at the work as a “big abstract painting,” the process began by carving the cracks and throwing rocks in a manner that appears organic and believable to those walking past.

He continues by saying that the imagineering team studies how animals walk in order to provide an authentic look to the concrete work. The team then uses stampers and other special tools to create the foot and hoof prints.

He also describes the use of a wagon and how they think of what the animals pulling the wagon would do if someone were to walk in front, causing an abrupt stop. This adds an additional layer of detail to the area.

All of these steps are in hopes that guests will be fully-immersed and feel as though they are part of the story.
