Construction has begun on a new Spider-Man-themed land at Shanghai Disneyland, making this the park’s ninth themed land and third major expansion since its opening.
Construction Begins on Spider-Man Land at Shanghai Disneyland
According to social media posts from Disney Parks and Shanghai Disney Resort, the new land has officially broken ground with a ceremony held on the morning of Monday, May 19, 2025.
Leaders from Shanghai Disney Resort and shareholder representatives were there to celebrate the groundbreaking on the new land, which will be located adjacent to Zootopia.
The land will feature the park’s first major Marvel-themed attraction — a roller coaster themed to Spider-Man, which was confirmed at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in 2024. The land will also include shopping, food and beverages, and entertainment.
Few details have been confirmed about the roller coaster, but Disney Parks Blog shared the following description after its announcement at D23:
Peter Parker has gotten himself — and us — in a bit of a tight spot. We’re going to follow HIM – at very high speeds – to get us out of trouble.
Shanghai Disney Resort announced that a new attraction was coming to shareholders in March 2024. In April of that year, a municipal planning map was found that showed a forward and reverse launch.
