We first noticed that Cool Ship was entirely gone from its usual location on Friday, May 23. Construction walls went up around the kiosk earlier this week. The refurbishment was a bit of a surprise, but the Walt Disney World website now confirms work is being done.

When looking down into the construction area from the PeopleMover, we can see a Hitachi-branded excavator in the area, with stacks of cinderblocks holding up the construction walls.

A few orange cones are stationed in the area. The excavator was not in operation when we passed by.

While the landscaping is still in place on either side of the construction zone, what was once Cool Ship has been dismantled down to its foundation. The Thirst Rangers ship, Cool Scanner area, and the kiosk itself are now completely dismantled.

In this image, you can get a better glimpse at the remaining foundation for the kiosk. Wires and pipes stick up and out the sides of the remaining concrete.

According to the Walt Disney World official website, Cool Ship is “temporarily closed for refurbishment and is expected to reopen later this year.” At this time, it is unclear if the kiosk will return with its previous appearance intact, or if it will return with a brand-new look.
