In a surprise refurbishment, Cool Ship in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom has now been closed and wrapped in construction walls.
Cool Ship Refurbishment

We first noticed the new construction walls surrounding Cool Ship when riding the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover on May 19. The entire section of the guest walkway on all sides of the spaceship-themed refreshment kiosk are now completely blocked. The construction walls are propped up with stacks of blocks and additional crossbeams. Closer to the edge of the Tomorrowland Speedway, the walls are replaced with a gray scrim.

Looking into the construction site from above, no major work seems to be taking place at Cool Ship so far. The location still appears as normal, with the register and fridge for the outdoor kiosk still present. The kiosk includes the Cool Scanner, which sprays a refreshing mist from below a red spaceship.
The ship is rumored to be a repurposed prop from “Flight of the Navigator” (1986). It was refurbished in 2021.

The walls are decorated with oval blue signs that include the usual Walt Disney inspiring quotes commonly seen on these walls. The Walt Disney World website as well as the My Disney Experience app now list Cool Ship as closed. Neither list an official reopening date yet, though they mention Cool Ship is “expected to reopen later this year.” The calendar currently goes to July 19, with no operating hours for Cool Ship through that date.
While Cool Ship is closed, guests can still get refreshments and snacks nearby at Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies and The Lunching Pad.
Cool Ship is between Astro Orbiter and the Tomorrowland Speedway. The former attraction is still closed for refurbishment. It was completely deconstructed and removed, but elements are now returning to Tomorrowland. Astro Orbiter is expected to reopen this summer.
