In honor of the live-action “How to Train Your Dragon” movie releasing in June and coinciding with the opening of Epic Universe including How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, an overlay inspired by the franchise has gone up in The Lost Continent at Universal Islands of Adventure.
How to Train Your Dragon Overlay of The Lost Continent
Entrance
When approaching The Lost Continent from the Seuss Landing side, guests are greeted by a life-size version of Astrid’s Deadly Nadder, Stormfly, looking down from the entrance bridge.
A wooden “How to Train Your Dragon” sign hangs over the front of the bridge. Stormfly’s tail, covered in spikes, is visible.

Past the archway, strings of banners and lanterns hang across the sidewalk. These feature “How to Train Your Dragon”-inspired designs.
Heraldry Shop
The Heraldry shop has been redecorated. Murals of red and green dragons are now above the shop’s awnings.
More dragon banners hang around this tree. The large center banner reads, “Welcome to Dragon Training.”
It features Nordic designs and various symbols representing different dragon specialties. A shiny green is in the center of the design.

Three long banners hang on poles in front of the shop. Two feature Norse-style dragon artwork. The center features the poster for the live-action remake of “How to Train Your Dragon,” which is in theaters on June 13.

Four framed posters feature artwork of different dragons, with their species names in Nordic-style lettering. They have statistics listed like you might see on a trading card. The species are the Monstrous Nightmare, Night Fury, Deadly Nadder, Thunderdrum, Gronckle, and Hideous Zippleback.

Inside, the Heraldry shop offers “How to Train Your Dragon” merchandise. The shop already carried some “How to Train Your Dragon” items, as well as Dueling Dragons merchandise and generic dragon merchandise. “How to Train Your Dragon” has definitely expanded, with some Epic Universe merchandise items available. Dueling Dragons merchandise is available in All Hallows Eve Boutique. Family crest items are also still available at Heraldry.
Behind the check-out counter is a map of Berk and surrounding islands. Above the map is a “How to Train Your Dragon” sign.
The sign’s style is inspired by the more realistic look of the upcoming live-action film. “In Theaters June 13th” is on a sign below it.
The map features various dragons, Viking ships, and land features.
A small banner hanging near the shop’s entrance showcases the five dragon species and reads, “We Have Dragons,” a famous quote about Berk. The dragons pictured are their “live-action” versions.
A Viking shield with a silver-tone dragon is on the front of the counter.
Part of the map featuring Berk is also on the counter.
More Viking shields and documents hang above the merchandise displays.

The documents include smaller versions of the dragon species cards that were displayed outside.

The other pieces of paper appear to be from a “Book of Dragons,” with a title page nailed first in the row. The next page lists the symbols featured alongside the dragon imagery.

The other pages have drawings of dragons and details about the different species.

One of the shields is green with a white Nordic design featuring four dragon heads. The other is orange-brown with yellow and green designs.
Toothless Photo Op
The former seating area across from Heraldry features a Toothless photo spot.
Though it’s not quite the same as meeting Toothless in Epic Universe, the Toothless figure is approximately life-size with realistic features. He’s stagnant among 3D cloud elements with a backdrop showcasing other dragons flying through the sky.
Guests can stand behind Toothless, so it looks like they’re riding him through the sky. We couldn’t resist letting our Toothless shoulder plush take a spin.
Prop Replicas
The former pendant press location has been turned into a “How to Train Your Dragon” workshop set featuring prop replicas.
A wooden display has the “How to Train Your Dragon” wordmark and “June 13” carved into the front.
Atop the display are replicas of Astrid and Hiccup’s weapons, shields, and costumes. Though these aren’t screen-used props, they are detailed recreations of the items in the movie. Above is Astrid’s axe.
This green shield with a red and blue Nordic knot design is Astrid’s shield.
Hiccup’s shield is green with a red dragon pictured breathing fire.
Hiccup’s axe has a detailed Nordic design on the blade.

The costumes were a little difficult to photograph due to the light reflecting off the glass. But above are pictures of Astrid’s replica costume. In the live-action remake, she’s portrayed by Nico Parker.

They also have a replica of Hiccup’s costume. The main character is played by Mason Thames in the new film.
Behind the display cases is a long workbench covered in drawings. More drawings and maps are pinned above the bench.
A shield featuring a Toothless-inspired design sits in front of the bench.
The props include a replica of the “Book of Dragons.”
There’s a drawing of the Deadly Nadder.
Pasted into the book are sketches of Toothless, the Night Fury.

Some of the artwork takes inspiration from the original “How to Train Your Dragon” book by Cressida Cowell, which featured similar style drawings. There are leather patches featuring the dragon symbols.
The workbench is also piled with tools, a horn, black fur, and other generic items.
A life-size replica of Toothless’ prosthetic red tail fin, featuring a white skull design, is propped up against the workbench.
Some of the drawings hanging nearby include prototype designs for Toothless’ tail.

There’s a blue and red tapestry, a depiction of a Viking ship, and a map sketch.
The map hanging on the wall is similar to the one from Heraldry, zoomed in on Berk with dragons approaching from all sides.
Universal has already announced there will be a sequel to the live-action “How to Train Your Dragon.” Watch the trailer for the first remake below.
