In a press release listing upcoming film releases, NBCUniversal apparently revealed the name of the sequel to “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (2023).
Super Mario World
The name listed was “Super Mario World,” of course a reference to the classic 1990 Super Mario Bros. game, which introduced Yoshi.
NBCUniversal quickly removed all mention of the name and will presumably make a bigger announcement later. It’s possible the name could be changed too.
The sequel to “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” is set to release on April 3, 2026. The first film’s directors, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, and writer Matthew Fogel, are all returning.
The original cast featured Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. Yoshi is expected to be introduced in the sequel.
