The robot is Piaggio’s gitamini, a smaller model of their standard cargo-carrying robots. Dubbed G1T4-M1N1, the yellow and white paint job turns it into a Star Wars droid with various bits and bobs pictured across its surface.

According to StarWars.com, the team behind the G1T4-M1N1 researched Astromech droids like R2-D2 to understand the look and feel of Star Wars droids.

Collaborating with Disney and Lucasfilm on this Star Wars-inspired robot was a natural fit because their legacy of creative storytelling aligns perfectly with our team’s mission. PFF turns everyday mobility challenges into opportunities for connection and exploration. Star Wars has inspired generations with its imaginative galaxy and futuristic droids assisting humans with everyday tasks, matching our vision for the future of robotics.

The G1T4-M1N1 has an array of cameras and sensors that allow it to identify and follow its user. Its top speed is 6 mph. It uses “pedestrian etiquette” to smoothly navigate and move around obstacles.

It features custom droid sounds and responses to the user’s behavior. Custom light patterns display status updates like battery level, park mode, and pairing mode. It’s cargo bin is 17.9″ long, 16.5″ wide, and 18.9″ high and holds up to 20 pounds.

There are custom “Star Wars” decals on the inside of the cargo bin. The droid has a runtime of seven hours, built-in Bluetooth speaker, and USB charging port. It charges in under 2 hours. With the mygita app, users can name their droid, stream music, and check the battery.

The droid is available to purchase on DisneyStore.com and piaggiofastforward.com. It includes a charger block and cable, lens cleaning kit, quickstart guide, user manual, registration card, and release of liability.

Visitors to Disney Store Times Square can experience in-person demos of the G1T4-M1N1 from May 2 through May 6. It will be available for purchase via QR code.
