Red Guardian a.k.a. Alexei Shostakov is now roaming in Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure.
Red Guardian made his debut on May 2, the same day “Thunderbolts*” released in theaters. Upon walking out, he exclaimed, “I love this place!”
Disneyland Resort previously released the announcement video showing the face character hailing different Avengers. He will appear for a limited time.
Red Guardian is listed in the Disneyland App with appearance times for the day ending at 3:50 p.m.
We encountered him as he roamed around Avengers Campus interacting and taking photos with guests. A formal line was not formed and Cast Members asked guest to only grab quick selfies and autographs.
Disney describes Alexei Shostakov, The Red Guardian, as a Russian super soldier with a larger than life personality. Alexei sees himself as a peer of equal status with Captain America, and is on a constant search for validation and acceptance as a Super Hero. Underneath all of his bravado, he does have a hidden softer side for children, sparked by a warm connection to his daughters and strong desire for family.
David Harbour portrays Red Guardian in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He first appeared in “Black Widow” (2021) and returns for “Thunderbolts*” as part of a team of misfit Marvel “heroes” including one of his adoptive daughters, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh). The cast also includes Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Wyatt Russell as John Walker / U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov / Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr / Ghost, Lewis Pullman as Bob, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
“Thunderbolts*” is the last film of Phase Five of the MCU and the 36th film overall. It’s directed by Jake Schreier from a screenplay by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo.
