We tried several cocktails at Bar Moonshine in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe. Which ones are worth trying, and which ones are an absolute “no” from WDWNT? Read on to find out.
Location
Exterior
Interior

The interior of Bar Moonshine is quite small, and is intended just for guests to go inside, get their drinks, and enjoy them elsewhere.
The venue takes inspiration from sports bars with an American Quidditch twist. Pennants from several U.S. teams, including house teams from Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, line the walls.

Fleur 75- $18
London dry gin, elderflower liquid, brut sparkling wine, lemon juice, simple syrup, and a lemon spiral
None of the members of our review team are “gin people,” which does cloud our judgment a bit. This is not by any means an offensive cocktail, it’s just not our thing. It tastes a lot like a gin take on a French 75, which is basically what this is. It’s good, but we’d prefer the original version of this cocktail. There’s probably an audience for this out there, it’s just not us.

Lobe Blaster – $17
Moonshine, limoncello, absinthe, lemon juice, club soda, and simple syrup with a rosemary sprig; layered with émulsion verte
The presentation of this drink was very cool; the bartender poured the émulsion verte on top of the drink, giving it a green ombré effect.
The Lobe Blaster is super refreshing and not what we initially expected. As far as taste, this offers a minty licorice flavor that is really good. The description of the drink is accurate, but we found the moonshine to be masked by the limoncello and absinthe. The lemon juice is definitely present, but we didn’t get a lot of bubbles from the club soda.
This is a great summer cocktail. It’s rare that you get a drink in the parks that not only has a nice presentation, but also looks nice and tastes good too. We love this.

Philosopher’s Old Fashioned – $19
Bourbon, aromatic bitters, simple syrup, and orange zest
Based on the ingredients, this is a very straightforward Old Fashioned. It’s very standard, like if you got a solid Old Fashioned at the airport. This is not at all an elevated take on the drink, but that’s fine. If that’s what you want, it’s exactly what you’ll get.

Sherbert Lemon – $18
Vodka with herbaceous liqueur, lemon bitters, ginger beer, lemon sugar rim, and an edible flower
This drink is definitely herbaceous! You have to try very hard not to get too much of the lemon sugar rim when you drink this, or you’ll end up with a puckered sour face like we did. All we could taste on our initial sip was the sugar rim.
This is just terrible. The best way we can describe this is that it’s like drinking liquefied flowers. The aftertaste is awful and reminiscent of chemicals. We have no choice but to give this the infamous “0” score.

Beau Thé Bleu d’Occamy- $6.49
Blue refresher with magical tea bag
The presentation for this refresher is so special and cool. You open the package that comes with this and remove the “sachet” in one piece, then drop it into the cup and stir with your “wand” (straw) and enjoy.

The sachet is pure sugar, like a packed square of cotton candy with no color. The second you drop it in, the drink turns purple with a glittery and fizzy effect. We love the presentation and were sold on this drink immediately from that alone. It fits within the theme of the Wizarding World very well.
As far as taste goes, it’s like sparkling water with a blue raspberry flavor. It’s not bad; we like the presentation and it’s drinkable. If you’re not into alcoholic beverages or want to get something fun for kids, this works.

Overall
We think Bar Moonshine is a pretty cool little spot in Place Cachée. When we visited, you could walk right up to the bar with no line, but it probably won’t be like that for long. It’s a good spot for a nice cocktail to stroll with or enjoy at one of the three small tables outside. While not every beverage on the menu will be a hit for everyone, there is something to suit all sorts of palates here.
