In the village of Darkmoor, monster hunters known as The Hounds and other villagers gather to dine and drink at The Burning Blade Tavern. Take a full photo and video tour of the venue below.
The Burning Blade Tavern
About
The Burning Blade Tavern is inspired by a scene in the 1931 “Frankenstein” film, which kicked off Universal’s Monsters franchise. Near the end of the film, villagers set a windmill on fire with Frankenstein’s Monster inside.
Read the official description below.
The Burning Blade Tavern is the old mill which Darkmoor Village’s monster hunters have transformed into their hangout. Here guests will discover stories of some of the countryside’s most accomplished creature capturers along with a menu of burgers, wings, bratwursts, pretzels and beverages.
Location
The Burning Blade Tavern is located in Dark Universe, between Curse of the Werewolf and Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment.
Exterior
The tavern is below a rickety windmill with actual moving blades. Guests enter through a stone structure.
The walls of the hill include bones — sometimes full skulls — packed into the dirt.

The tavern’s sign is made from broken planks of wood and stands in a flowerbed near the entrance. At night, the attached lantern illuminates the sign. A menu is also posted outside.
The Burning Blade Tavern is already famous for its flaming blades. During the day, the blades burst into flame every 15 minutes.
The double doors look like they’re made of dozens of welded-together metal sheets. A team member will usually be on hand to open the door for you.

There’s an outdoor patio under a wooden overhang. The patio has tall tables and chairs. Lanterns hang from the ceiling. It’s at the end of a path between stone walls and shrubbery.
The mobile order pick-up window faces the patio, next to doors leading inside.
There’s a faux fireplace with masonry tools on the mantel. A symbol above the mantel features a bat, sword, hook, hammer, and stake.
The Burning Blade Tavern comes alive at night. The blades still catch on fire every 15 minutes, but with an extra light and music show. Flickering orange lights move through the trees on the hill, representing angry villagers. Guests can hear the villagers shouting as dramatic music mounts. As the lights reach the windmill and the music crescendos, the blades burst into flame.
The blades spin on fire for several seconds. With another triumphant burst of fire, the flames go out. Watch the mini show in our TikTok video below.
You can also see the fire effect in our YouTube video at the bottom of this article.

When not on fire, the windmill is illuminated with purple light. Lanterns hang around the entrance, leading guests inside.
Interior

Inside are more tall and standard-height tables and chairs. The walls are made of stone. There are wooden columns and ceiling beams. Circular chandeliers hang from the ceiling.
All the light is warm, resembling fire. There are lanterns mounted on the columns and walls. In the room’s center is a circular counter around a column.
The Burning Blade Tavern is a stomping ground for hunters, and the propping reflects that. On the wall next to the patio door is a pitchfork.
Hanging next to the pitchfork is a painting of humans battling monsters.
The bar is an L shape across the back wall and the wall of the patio. Part of it resembles stone, while the rest looks like it’s made of wood.
The menu is displayed on a TV screen behind the bar.
Garlic hangs around a keg, ensuring vampires stay away. There’s a dartboard on the wall with scores next to it. Weaponry, metal mugs, and various knick-knacks are on shelves along the wall.
The tap handles look like they’re made of carved wood and are purposefully faded.
Drinks have to be “sanitized” in a cloche of smoke so guests aren’t infected with any stray monstrous diseases.

One of the props behind the counter is the head of an alien from “This Island Earth” and the titular monster of “The Thing,” combined and frozen.
More monster heads are mounted on the wall above some kegs.
A goblin-like monster is mounted with three arrows sticking through its head. It has bulging eyes and sharp teeth.
In the center is a large werewolf head, its mouth open in a snarl. Mounted on a stick below is a small Gill-man head.
The largest head is a green scaly creature with pincers.

The creature on the far right is a Fiji mermaid with long black hair. A captain’s hat sits next to her, and more garlic hangs nearby. Other props include books and boxes.
The red fez is a reference to Boris Karloff’s Imhotep.

Mounted above the bar are a spear and a harpoon gun, so the hunters have a weapon at a moment’s notice.
You may also notice gaps in the wooden planks of the ceiling, through which you can see the red light of the windmill fire.
The Hounds
Among the characters guests encounter in Dark Universe are the Hounds. These monster hunters visit The Burning Blade Tavern. Though there are multiple Hounds, you’ll only see one at a time visiting the bar.
