The long awaited deal for full ownership of Hulu has come to a close as Disney has purchased Comcast’s stake in the streaming service.

Previously, Disney owned 2/3rds of Hulu, while Comcast/NBC Universal owned the last third. Disney expressed public interest in buying out Comcast’s stake in the company so they could have total ownership, especially in light of blending Disney+ and Hulu into a bundled package.
In November 2023, it was announced that Comcast had agreed to negotiations to sell their stake in Hulu. Disney had paid $8.31 billion up front to close the deal, and will pay a further $438.7 million now that it’s been finalized. The actual passing of ownership is set to be complete on or before July 24, 2025.
Below is a statement from Disney CEO Bob Iger regarding the deal.
“We are pleased this is finally resolved. We have had a productive partnership with NBCUniversal, and we wish them the best of luck. Completing the Hulu acquisition paves the way for a deeper and more seamless integration of Hulu’s general entertainment content with Disney+ and, soon, with ESPN’s direct-to-consumer product, providing an unrivaled value proposition for consumers.”
