According to The Hollywood Reporter and first reported by The Insneider newsletter, Goth is set to portray one of the “evil pursuers” after the young nephew of Gosling’s lead character. WDWNT reported the rumor on Gosling’s casting in January 2025, before it was confirmed at Star Wars Celebration Japan in April.

Goth’s new role was previously offered to newly minted Oscar winner Mikey Madison, who passed, reportedly due to pay.

The film is expected to begin production this fall in England, with an opening date scheduled for May 28, 2027. “Star Wars: Starfighter is a stand-alone story that will be “unconnected” to the Skywalker Saga and takes place five years after the events of 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”

“This is a stand-alone. It’s not a prequel, not a sequel. It’s a new adventure. It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet,” said Levy at Star Wars Celebration Japan.

Goth is best known for her dual roles as Pearl and Maxine Minx in the “X” trilogy by horror auteur Ti West. She will next star in Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” alongside Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi, as well as Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.”

“Star Wars: Starfighter” will be the first “Star Wars” film to hit theaters after “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” which is set to release on May 22, 2026.
